GPS coordinates (mobile app)
Longitude/Latitude
Please look at Google's documentation on location permissions at this link and this link.
The LogAlto mobile application requests permission from your device's location services to take the longitude and latitude coordinates. Your Android device manages these services.
The device can use any of the following services (and a combination of them) to identify your location:
- GPS (radio satellite data)
- Cellular network (related to SIM card)
- WiFi networks
Typical Android devices have built-in GPS (satellite data) services. Even in airplane mode, you may access the GPS coordinates by enabling the WiFi signal on your phone (even if you are not connected to a network). This is highly dependent on the make and OS of the device.
Here is a summary of test situations where the GPS location button provides an output or when it times out. :
Location authorization | WiFi signal | Plane mode | Result |
ON | ON and connected | OFF | Success |
OFF | ON and connected | OFF | A pop-up will ask you to enable authorization. |
ON | OFF | ON | Timeout! |
ON | OFF | OFF | Success |
ON | ON but not connected | OFF | Success (slower) |
ON | ON but not connected | ON | Success |
