Translate a form
Translate a form
It is possible to translate a form into different languages.
This allows you to have different versions of the form (different language or different wording) but keep the same form structure, so you can aggregate all of the data collected (you don't need to create 1 form per language).
To do so:
- Click "Custom forms" in the main menu (left)
- You can click the form you'd like to translate.
- Click "Fields & Sections" in the form menu (top)
- You will see the "Translate" button:
- Specify which translations will be available
- Translate all titles, fields and options
- Import the translation file
- Switch to another language
Specify which translations will be available
You'll first need to specify which languages will be available for this form.
- Click on "Translate";
- Select "Change languages."
A new window will open, allowing you to indicate all the different languages or versions available among the translations.
To achieve this, for each of the languages and versions:
- Click in the text field (left);
- Enter the name of the language (e.g. "English" or "En");
- Click "Add";
- Once all languages are added, tap "Save".
These options can be displayed by default if your LogAlto platform is available in multiple languages.
ATTENTION:
You can translate a form in a language not supported by your platform. It is strongly recommended to create the lists as Custom Options
and not System lists
. System lists can only be translated into languages supported by LogAlto.
Translate all titles, fields and options
Once the previous step is completed, a translation file must be generated.
- Click on "Translate";
- Select "Generate."
The system will automatically generate the Excel file that includes all the form's fields as columns and the different languages as columns.
It will be necessary to translate each field into each language using this file.
In the Excel template, you will see different fields depending on how the form was configured:

Field name | This is the specific name for each of the fields in the form. |
Field description | This is a description for the field above. Even if you did not have a description in the original version of the form, it is possible to add one in the translation; |
Option value | This box appears when the field is of type "list". You will see the options in the list, which can also be translated. |
Import the translation file
Once the titles, fields and options are translated in the Excel document, it's time to import the translation file:
- Click on "Translate";
- Select "Import";
- A new window will open: click on "Browse," choose the file and then click on "Import template document";
- You should see the message "The template was successfully imported." Click "OK".
Switch languages
Once you have added a new language, go to the main page of the form (you can click on the "Registration" tab).
You should see "Fr" (or any other default language) in the form menu with a small arrow.
By clicking on the arrow, you can choose from all the languages that have been added.

Si vous cliquez sur « Ajouter un enregistrement », vous pourrez aussi constater que le formulaire a également été traduit.
If your LogAlto platform is available in multiple languages, it will be possible to add and translate the options of a list directly into the system when it is created. Please refer to the article System Lists Management for detailed instructions on solving lists in the system.
If you use a system list that has already been translated when you translate a form, Log Alto can match the languages and display the language option in the drop-down menu.
